Santa Barbara the soap opera, which revolved around the fascinating and tumultuous life of the wealthy Capwell family of Santa Barbara, California, went off the year 20 years ago today. The show was first broadcast in the United States on NBC on July 30, 1984, and last aired on January 15, 1993. Santa Barbara aired in over 40 countries, won 24 Daytime Emmy Awards, and was watched by the Reagans in the White House.

Family and friends in other states always thought that was SB life although it was filmed in Burbank. A lot of glamor and fun. Good memories!
Before they arrived in Santa Barbara, they sent a woman to town to ask me what was happening politically in town. The writers wanted some inside stories to inspire them. We talked for an hour about the city. None of it ever appeared on the show….The show really wasn’t about Santa Barbara…What was really happening in Santa Barbara at the time was a lot more interesting than anything on that silly show.
