Architectural Board of Review Playing Chicken

Letter to the Architectural Board of Review by City Councilmember Franck Hotchkiss

Mr. Gary Mosel
Mr. Keith Rivera
Mr. Chris Gilliland
City Hall Members, City Architectural Board of Review

Gentlemen:

Your decisions as members of the city’s Architectural Board of Review must be made on the basis of design and other architectural matters, as spelled out in the City Charter. I suggest you review the Charter to better understand your duties.

At the meeting of the ABR on August 6, 2012, and the previous consent meeting, you made it clear that you were unable to make objective decisions on a matter before you because of your political views.

Unless you can overcome this short-coming and reconsider all matters based on legitimate ABR review criteria, I request your resignation from the ABR, effective immediately.

We cannot have applicants believe that the fate of their projects depends on their political outlook. Ours is a city that welcomes diverse views, even those with which we may not agree.

Cordially, Franck Hotchkiss
City Council Member

Should have been part of the Mayor’s statement and signed by all sitting Councilmembers.

Thank you, Mr. Hotchkiss. At least Santa Barbara residents can count on you for ethics and a proper democratic process regarding municipal affairs.

    Well done.

..THE PERSONS WHO MADE THIS DECISION WERE NOT JUST MISGUIDED. THEY DID NOT JUST “MAKE AN ERROR IN JUDGMENT”….THEY CONSCIOUSLY, AND WITH STATED PURPOSE, ABANDONED THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES…NO PLEDGE TO ” NEVER DO IT AGAIN”, CAN BE BELIEVED ….THEY SHOULD BE REPLACED…..
