The End of WheelHouse

On the same day we posted Vintage Views of Hazard’s, it’s sad to report the end of WheelHouse. The modern bicycles and accessories store on Anacapa Street is closing. Everything in the store will be 40-60% off this weekend. Doors will shut January 31.

I am VERY, VERY sorry to read that. They are or should I say have been a great store!

That high end Bicili place on state closed too.

The costs of bikes is directly proportional to their desirability to get stolen. Buying a great bike in this town is pouring good money down the drain. A ratty one from the thrift shop will get you around town and be far less likely stolen again.

If you lock a bike properly, its chances of getting stolen are minimize. Sorry to see The Wheelhouse go. On the bright side, I did buy a cool bike there last weekend.

All those empty locks clinging to bike racks throughout our town are merely a form of urban installation art.

I’m sorry to see them fold, too, but I’ve always wondered who their market was and what kind of demand there was for the bikes they carried.
