Experience Santa Barbara—its architecture and its past—in a unique and personal way. Join us in a small group walking tour of the downtown area. Led by trained docents of the Architectural Foundation, the tour focuses on architectural styles, significant and historic buildings, aesthetics, past and present building usage, and landscape history. Discover why Santa Barbara is so often called 'The Riviera of America'.
We'll lead you to hidden courtyards, secret fountains and original adobes. Photographic opportunities abound and our leisurely pace invites relaxed enjoyment. View at first hand varying architectural traditions and appreciate close up Santa Barbara's hallmarks: hand-made tiles, wrought iron detailing, stonework, balconies, doorways, arches and fragrant plantings.
On the Sabado (Saturday) Tour, see the historic de la Guerra Adobe, El Paseo, the Hill-Carillo Adobe, the Meridian Studios, the Lobero Theatre and much, much more. Hear the rich anecdotal history of these buildings, their designers, and their builders. Learn what created the stunning transformation and forever changed Santa Barbara from ordinary to extraordinary. Celebrate with us the rich cultural heritage left by the first Spanish and Mexican settlers and those giants of Southern California Architecture Julia Morgan, George Washington Smith, Reginald Johnson, Joseph Plunkett and many others.
The Sabado Tour leaves from the centrally located de la Guerra Plaza Saturdays at 10 a.m. (rain cancels). Adjacent parking is available.
