Evening View of Alice’s Gardens

Santa Barbara Photo of the Week by Bill Heller.

As I was driving home the other day, I passed Alice Keck Park Memorial Gardens. The beautiful evening light caught my eye and after circling the block I decided I had to get out and take a closer look. Many of my favorite shots seem to happen like this. After a nice evening of photography, even after everything is packed up sometimes it pays to take one last look around to see what opportunities might just pass you by.

These are incredible to look at and fun to play with. Thanks Bill!

Thanks Anon!! If you have not had the chance to play with them on a touch based device that is even more fun when you can actually drag and pinch the view.

Oh and speaking of touch based devices… el_smurfo, let me know if you get the new “click to play” button on Android. I can see it on other touch based devices, but since it’s new I might not catch all of the different browsers on Android. The HTML5 is not quite ready there, some odd things going on, but this should be an improvement for you.

You blue purple tones in the sky are amazing. The only color I have seen like that are blue/ purple hydrangeas .

Thank you! A nice long exposure after the sun has already gone down brings out the glowing lights so nicely, and the remaining glow gives that beautiful blue in the sky. Just after sunset is one of my favorite times to take pictures.

Really cool Bill. The sky is my favorite. I like the people under the tree too!

Thanks SBGirl! Actually I can probably thank those people under the tree for the angle of this image. I was headed toward that little island at first until I saw they were enjoying it.

Beautiful colors, but it looks as though the photo(s)? were taken from high up in a tree; was that so? (And I didn’t see anyone under the tree. ;) )

Well not actually in the tree, although I do have another shot that looks even more like it’s from the tree at the top of the hill :-) Getting a nice shot from this spot required getting the camera quite a bit higher than usual. Good tripods and camera mounts (and a variety of them) are probably the most important tools you can invest in for a good photo.

The people are under the large palm tree on the island across the duck pond.
