Fourth of July Over Santa Barbara, California

It’s only a tiny point at this size, but one of the things I really like about this photo is the flag on the wharf. It goes so nicely with the fireworks. You can just make it out at the left of the image. I almost cropped in real tight so you could see it, but then you would miss the palm tree.

Fireworks are one of those things, like food photography, that make me love my digital camera. The combination of long exposure and fast motion makes for a challenging subject. Throw in the fading light of the dusky sky and the variable brightness of the different fireworks and you can have some real fun. But with the immediate feedback on a digital camera you can quickly adjust if something is not working. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still not giving up my film completely. But it is nice to use the right tool for the job.

Have a wonderful and safe Independence Day!Bill Heller

Those here already sold out for the free food at the Missions, Chumashan. So no one got stripped of any rights. They were given away freely and for value. Plus no succeeding generation needs to carry guilt from the past. What are they teaching you in your tribal studies class anyway? So in that vein Chumashan, why aren’t you feeling guilty stripping gambling money from those who can least afford it?
