What are your resolutions and/or new year’s wishes for Santa Barbara in 2013? We asked some of our 3,600 Friends on Facebook to get a list started:
- For everyone on our streets to slow down and show respect for each other.
- For more emphasis to be placed in the needs of residents and local businesses; not tourists and outside corporations.
- Surf more!
- The return of independent businesses to downtown Santa Barbara…The kind of stores for Santa Barbarans and not for the Rodeo Drivers.
- May all, in our most remarkable home, take mindful and most kind care for all.
- That California gives up it Liberal ways and that California can again be productive and Conservative State that actually is not the laughing stock of America.
- Recycle more!
- Prosperity, health, job and shelter security for all.
- Do some yoga. Take a deep breath before you react. Try to come from a place of compassion and treat each other with kindness and acceptance.
- All children with special needs in Santa Barbara School District will receive a free and appropriate public education like the rest of the children without special needs
Hopefully Herbert Bayer’s Chromatic Gate will get restored in early 2013 and progress will be made on State St. panhandling. What are Viewer’s wishes for Santa Barbara in 2013?

1. Anyone who espouses even a shred of concerns for global warming needs to commit to driving no faster than 55mph and use the most proven fuel-thrifty mode of transportation possible. Otherwise, shut up.
2. “Natural” juice bars need to run their extractors on solar power or hand juice only.
3. More city budget needs to be directed to repair and maintenance of our city infrastructure, and get out of the utopian social program business.
4. More people need to realize “progressive” only means pro-publie employee unions, pro-unsustainable public perks and pensions and pro picking our back pockets.
5. Stop electing pro-employee union reps to sit on both sides of the city, county and school board bargaining tables. Support independent, non-partisan candidates with your time, money and vote.
6. Underground all utilities in this town. Let trees be the only tall things we see on our streets.
7. Turn off your cell phone and let your brain breathe again.
“viewer’s?” Are you seeking the opinion of only one? What is this, Edhat?
Agree… especially with #6.

I’ll second that one.
