Adding yet another traffic hazard to the San Marcos Pass: a trio of helmeted skateboarders zooming their way downhill on their longboards Saturday afternoon, creating a 20-car backup. By the time the photo was taken, one skateboarder had turned off at West Camino Cielo, and the other two had stood back up from crouched positions and slowed their speed on a minor uphill—preparing for their next thrill ride. Meanwhile, Caltrans continues construction of the suicide barrier on Cold Springs Bridge, a bit further up the pass.

Did anyone think to call the police/hwy patrol?
With trucks and drunks that’s just plain dumb
I used to get tired of the anti-skateboarding posts that were a part of this blog’s early history. This post is okay with me — those skateboarders are idiots and may soon be victim’s of Darwin’s Law.
I never tire complaining about skate-boarders on State Street sidewalks that keep me from shopping downtown. Catch them and lock them up. I shan’t return until you do.
It’s so nice to see skate hate alive and well in Santa Barbara. They’re not hurting anyone (but maybe themselves) and they are living life bigger, louder and faster than you ever have or ever will. Mind your own business, whiners.

You must have missed the part about the traffic jam behind them.
Whether you like it or not skateboarding is growing more popular than its ever been. That hill looks like fun! This is a California city with deep roots in skateboard and surfing culture. This sport you call a menace represents local culture far more than Starbucks or Abercrobie & F&^%^%. If you want to shop freely without the influence of California culture, move to the Mall of America.
