Former First District Supervisor Naomi Schwartz passed away this morning at Cottage Hospital following complications from surgery performed last week. Schwartz served three terms from 1993-2005 and was so highly regarded for her service that a county building on Victoria Street was named for her years following her retirement.

The building named after her near CaDario has the best Ray Strong painting ever!
So Sad. Everyone seems to be passing away this year. Thoughts and prayers with Deborah and the entire family. She certainly did a lot for this community.
Naomi’s lovely as she was, her political memory will live forever in terms of county pension liabilities she let get out of control during her time in office. Future generations who are now stuck with this county pension bill will remember her for a long, long time.
May the era of putting public employee union sympathizers on both sides of the bargaining table rest in peace as well. She meant well, however ultimately she was very short-sighted. No she did not deserve a building named after her, but county employees were very grateful.
Naomi, you are missed as a wonderful person but not as a politician.
