Overdevelopment of Goleta Gains Steam in 2013

100 more cookie-cutter condominiums will be added to the original 235 units at Willow Springs, courtesy of Developer Michael Towbes and the Goleta City Council. Supersizing of the Flir project, corner of Caneros and Hollister, was also approved by the Goleta City Council yesterday. The project will demolish an existing 4,348-square-foot building and replace it with a 16,175-square-foot building and a pedestrian plaza.

And later this year, the below parcel, with scenic views of the Santa Ynez Mountains between Glen Annie Road and Santa Felicia Drive, will become a mixed-use monstrosity featuring 274 residential units and large buildings up to three stories high. Residents are suing to stop the project the project because the development seen as a threat to the quality of life in the region.

    When I moved out here in the late 70′s the Elephant Bar complex and Aqua Flow were the only things this side of Fairview.

    City of Goleta has become the cash cow of Michael Towbes, and other developers. It is ironic, given that “slow growth” was the original impetus of cityhood. But greed, and desire for more $$$ has been the downfall of many a small city.
