New California Redistricting Maps Arrive

The California Citizens Redistricting Commission is in the process of releasing the new draft maps, which will likely change Santa Barbara County politics.  The maps show the proposed new boundary lines for the much criticized Assembly, Senate, and  local Congressional districts. So long, Das. Jordan’s revenge is nearly complete. Map of the district links to Das’s site which is still featuring composting workshops at the top. Talk about a lightweight when we need serious discussion of issues.

I think you need to look closer and its the 2nd map, think Das still looks safe also Ventura County Star has story up think the Assembly District basically stays the same. The Congressional District draft looks like a return to a more competitive district.

also our Congressional Disrict actually looks like a return to the old district lines, didnt it use to be SB and San Luis back when we were the 22nd?

What about the elimination of the 23rd district, aka, the ribbon of shame?

  3. Anonymous June 10, 2011 at 1:08 pm #

Much better. Nice to see the ribbon of shame come to and end. Looks like Lois will have to deal with north county and everything up to Monterrey.

Well, it’s not that clear to me what will be the 35th boundaries. Apparently, it will include Lompoc but won’t include Santa Maria, that is, be SB County, as was urged — but it does include West Ventura? Or will that be a separate district and what was the 35th will stop at the county line beyond Carpinteria?

Anonymous: I don’t think they’ve done the Congressional remapping yet.

Thanks – I see the Congressional one. Makes more sense, although the ribbon, peculiar as it looked, did include those with like interests, if, that is, those along the coast have like interests.

Thank you, SBV, for providing the links to these maps so promptly!!

Here are the boundaries of the new districts by color. Looks as though SB remains safe for Dems. http://blogs.sacbee.com/capitolalertlatest/2011/06/california-redistricting-draft-assembly-senatearty-registratio.html

But what the map fails to show is registered Dems like me who will never vote for Das again.

        Why not?

Because my first job out of college was as the Reader in the AZ House of Representatives. That lasted 18 months, then I took over the job as Head Page for another year. In that time I saw every kind of political personality, the good, the bad and the ugly. The next year I took a job in Washington, D. C., with John McCain where I really saw the good and evil of government. So that’s why I say I would never vote for Das again. I did once, his first time running for office. But now I see him the same way I saw so many others. Just my observation, I would never vote for him.

He’s Weiner without the weiner. A narcissistic tool of the democrat machine.

Thanks, Dan, for your reply. I, too, voted for him first time around, but not again and was interested to hear your thoughts. Too bad how psychically corrupting is power or perceived power. Not everyone, but most after a couple of years. Really disappointing and it knows no party affiliation: Dale Francisco seems these last months to have succumbed to what his mirror is telling him.

This is an interesting map of the partisan leanings of the proposed districts: http://www.nickburkhart.com/blog/pvi

Looking good on all counts — definitely a community of interest to put us together with the other south central coast smaller communities and stop at Carpinteria. Good work, Redistricting Commission. Agree, good by Das and Hannah Beth and the Democrat Machine. Good government at last. And once we finally get some good people in office that belong to the community, and not gerry-mandered special interests like we have right now, it will be time to get rid of term limits which failed totally to deliver any reform whatsoever. The state actually was better off when Willie Brown was running it as his private satarap than letting the public unions take over through the term-limit back door.

Can’t see Das selling well to the retired military in Lompoc.

I’m sure all of the hardworking officers totally understand why their beaches are shut down to protect the delicious, marshmallowlike plovers. Can’t wait for Das to pull a Dukakis riding across the dunes in a hybrid powered tank to protect the little white California dodos.
