The Santa Barbara Photo of the Week… by local photographer Bill Heller.

This shot was taken at the end of a very enjoyable day of wandering downtown just taking pictures for fun. I had no specific subject in mind but the clouds were putting on a pretty nice show so I knew I would find something interesting. I was pretty satisfied with the day’s shots, but as we were on our way back to the car the last glow of the sunset highlighted the clouds that were billowing on the mountain beautifully. Many of my favorite images have been after I thought the light was gone, or after I thought I got the shot in some other way. It always pays to slow down and really look around for the beautiful opportunities that present themselves to us. Especially in our beautiful city there are no end of gorgeous moments!

I agree! There are definitely no end of gorgeous moments in SB. Last year I was living and working in Santa Barbara for almost six months (I’m originally from Sweden). It was the most beautiful place I’ve been to in a long time. The mountains sure did a lot to the dramatic views and I had to stop the car several times, just to look at the stunning view. Unfortunately I’m not as good of photography as you are and all my pictures doesn’t really “tell the truth”. the help me remeber though. I so miss the gorgeous views and moments in Santa Barbara. (lived on Olive St/ E Carrillo St)
Love your photos!
Soo beautiful
Very, very pretty!
Where was it taken? Doesn’t show a State Street that I recognize!
If I had to guess, I’d say from the garage on top of the Metro Theater…looks like the marquee below to me…Kind of shows you how sad and generic State is looking these days though…
@el_smurfo great eye, and you are right it is a theater marquee, but it’s the Fiesta Five. I’m not sure if you can get on top of the Metro, but now that you bring it up I just might have to see if I can get a shot from there.
Thanks Everyone! And I really like the cherry tomatoes image on your blog Åsa. Good photography comes with practice and you are well on your way. keep having fun with it, that’s the most important thing!
Doh! That’s what I meant…haven’t been to a movie in SB in 5+ years…too many bums.
